Job Announcement: National Development Coordinator

Critical Resistance (CR), a national grassroots organization working to end the prison industrial complex (PIC), seeks a National Development Coordinator to increase CR’s national impact and profile by engaging CR members in fundraising activities and providing critical support for institutional and individual donor development. This position will be based in our National Office in Oakland, CA, and will require travel to our other chapter cities.

 

Position Description

The Development Coordinator will work closely with the Development Director and CR members to develop, plan, and implement grassroots and institutional fundraising activities to support the campaigns and projects of the organization at a local and national level. The Coordinator will take the lead on engaging members in the development activities of the organization by providing training and planning assistance to members. This position will also provide key infrastructural support to maintain our individual donor and foundation relationships, as well as allow for the expansion of our fundraising activities to support our growing organization.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support member training, engagement, and development by co-facilitating local chapter and national membership fundraising committees with the Development Director

  • Support fundraising trainings and other skill-builds for membership engagement in fundraising campaigns (spokesperson development, writing about CR’s organizing, phonebanking and social media tactics for mid-year and end of year appeals, ask plans for networks and donors, etc).

  • Provide direct planning and host support for member or chapter-initiated fundraising events such as speaker events, The Abolitionist Newspaper release events, happy hours, and house parties.

  • Travel to our chapter cities to provide in-person trainings and support (approximately 3-6 trips per year in total).

  • Collaborate with the Development Director on creating grassroots donor communications such as end of year appeals, annual reports.

  • Lead infrastructural donor maintenance efforts by processing and tracking donations in Salesforce, working with the bookkeeper to generate reports, making weekly bank deposits, ensuring accurate donor record keeping related to address updates, and following up on donor questions and concerns in collaboration with the Operations Assistant.

  • Support website maintenance for merchandise sales (tshirts, books, posters, etc). Work collaboratively with member committees and other staff on new merchandise proposals.

  • Support institution and foundation fundraising through researching and seeking new funders, drafting and reviewing grant applications and Letters of Interest (LOIs). Co-lead the application process for select foundations.

  • Represent CR by building and maintaining relationships with organizers, funders and donors.

  • Additional duties, as needed

 

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of and commitment to prison industrial complex abolition.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Knowledge of relational database management required, with experience in Salesforce a plus.

  • Experience with website maintenance.

  • Excellent computer skills including listserv management, Microsoft Office Suite, cloud server applications and Google Suite applications.

  • Demonstrated ability to create and deliver trainings related to skills development.

  • Ability to collaborate with and develop the leadership of organizational members.

  • Ability to balance multiple responsibilities well, to set priorities, and follow work plans.

  • Strong collaboration skills and willingness to work in a non-hierarchical organization.

  • Willingness to travel.

Salary is $51,860 per year, plus good benefits and generous vacation. Salary is commensurate with other CR staff. We offer medical, dental, and vision benefits.
