I am really excited to be stepping into the staff role of Oakland Organizer, supporting CR’s work here in the Bay Area.
I’ve been connected to CR through participating in the No New Jail SF coalition campaign to shut down 850 Bryant over the past year. First as a member of Democratic Socialists of America San Francisco and co-chair of the chapter’s Justice committee, and continuing on in that work as vice-chair of the organization before resigning in September and joining Critical Resistance. I am excited to get into the work here.
Over the years, I have done work to build strong black and queer communities as a student organizer while at university, joined the fight for environmental justice in my home states of Louisiana and Mississippi on the Gulf Coast with the Gulf South Rising Initative, advanced the cultural work of uprooting oppressions as a program facilitator and member of AlternateRoots, and built community assemblies across the southern U.S. as a member of the Southern Movement Assembly.
At the heart of it all is a love for diverse communities and cultures, and a belief that we are the ones we’ve been waiting for; we have all the knowledge and know how to build vibrant communities.
In my role as an organizer, I look forward to working with all of CR’s supporters, allies, partners, and to build with communities in the Bay Area to strengthen the movement for the abolition of all cages.
