Prisoner Mail Working Group

What is the Prisoner Mail Working Group?

  • Regular communication with people imprisoned across the country is essential to building a national movement to eliminate the prison industrial complex. All CR Oakland members participate in corresponding with prisoners to create political discussion, provide information, and build relationships with imprisoned people.
  • Who writes to Critical Resistance and how do we respond to mail?

Prisoners from all over the United States (and occasionally internationally) write to CR. Most people who write directly to CR are first time writers. They want to know who we are, what we do, and why/how we do it. The goal of the prisoner mail workgroup is to develop longer-term relationships with prisoners not just as a way of keeping in touch (we are not a penpal program), but as a way to connect prisoners to our work, our campaigns and the politics of abolition as framed by CR.
