CR Portland is excited to invite you to our next Prisoner Mail Night—every fourth Wednesday of the month from 6–8 pm on Zoom. Whether you’re a mail night regular, a newbie looking to (re)engage with abolitionist community, or anything in-between, you are welcome and we hope you join us.

WHAT: Prisoner Mail is a political education and solidarity building program. CR volunteers correspond with imprisoned people throughout the country to introduce them to our mission, connect them to abolitionist resources, and remind them they have allies on the outside. While volunteers do connect with imprisoned comrades regularly, Prisoner Mail is not a penpal program and you may not correspond with the same comrade every time you volunteer.

DETAILS: Each mail night, volunteers gather for two hours to respond to letters from imprisoned comrades and connect with other members of Portland’s abolitionist community. If you’re new to CR’s prisoner correspondence program or our web app, your first mail night will include a training that all volunteers must participate in before viewing or sending prisoner mail. Expect to:

• Ground in CR’s mission and vision, with an emphasis on prisoner solidarity via correspondence programs.
• Build an understanding of the scope and goals of CR’s Prisoner Mail program.
• Learn how to use the CR web app to view and respond to letters.

If you can, please create an account on the CR web app before the training. Any prep you can do beforehand lets us spend more time actively connecting and writing on mail nights. Registering is quick:

1. Go to criticalresistance.world/index in your preferred browser.
2. Select “Register.”
3. Enter your first and last name, phone number, chapter (Portland), email address, and a password.
4. Complete the “I’m not a robot” captcha.
5. Select “Register” again.
6. Open your email and look for a message from “support@criticalresistance.world”. This email contains a link to verify your email.
7. Select the “Activate” link.

You will only be able to log in and access the web app after the training— a CR member will give you access during the meeting. Please do not worry if you’re not able to register for an account before the meeting. Like we said, it’s a quick process and we can get it done during mail night.
