The film (current run time 1 hour and 47 minutes) features an insightful look into the transformation of closed prisons across the US, the community-driven efforts leading to their closure, and the complex narratives of loss and reconciliation that emerge from these changes. And Water Brings Tomorrow is the final installment in Ashley Hunt’s trilogy that includes “Ashes Ashes” (2020) and “Double Time” (2021), focusing on the themes of prison closure and the ongoing movement for abolition and includes footage and interviews from Californians United for a Responsible Budget (CURB)’s statewide fight to close 10 prisons in California the end of 2025.
