Dear Friends,

It has been a year of heightened energy, movement building, and struggle, and we want to thank you for standing alongside us in strengthening the movement for liberation and self-determination. In this moment of increased attacks on communities, resources, and an atmosphere of racism, xenophobia, patriarchy, transphobia, and fear mongering, Critical Resistance has drawn on and amplified the legacy of abolition of the prison
industrial complex: a vision and strategy that explicitly challenges the forces of white supremacy, capitalism, and imperialism.

For almost 20 years, Critical Resistance has been a driving force behind the movement to fight the prison industrial complex. Since the 1998 founding conference, we have been advancing the strategies and visions for an abolitionist society through conferences, public events, workshops, videos, reports and literature, as well as campaigns, projects and coalitions. We hope you will join us on the eve of the 20th anniversary of our founding Critical Resistance conference by donating generously to keep the movement for abolition strong, vibrant, and growing.

This year Critical Resistance has given over 200 public workshops and presentations on policing, imprisonment, surveillance and abolition to over 2,000 new people. The demand for abolition is high and we need you to help us meet the call!

Because this is a crucial moment for abolition, we are aiming to raise $45,000 this month. Can you make a gift of $15, $50, $500, $1,000 or $15,000, to help us win? No amount is too small or too large. Every gift you make enables us to offer workshops and programming that strengthen our movement and uplifts abolition as a strategic weapon to fight state violence.

  • Become a monthly sustainer. Contribute $15, $25, or $50 per month online or by check (some workplaces have giving programs!) to keep CR strong.
  • Subscribe or donate to The Abolitionist, our bilingual newspaper that we send to imprisoned people for free. Outside subscribers like you sponsor the readership of over 5,500 people inside prisons, jails, and detention centers.
  • Spread the word to family and friends and encourage people to support CR.

Keep struggling, keep dreaming,

Jess Heaney, Lily Fahsi-Haskell, & Mohamed Shehk
Critical Resistance Co-Directors

P.S. Ready to make a gift this year? Consider doubling it to get us ready for our 20 year anniversary. We’re ready to keep building in 2018.

Abolition of Policing Workshop Now Available!

Our Abolition of Policing workshop has been in such high demand since the 2014 uprisings for Mike Brown in Ferguson that we released the curriculum this summer at the International Conference on Penal Abolition (ICOPA). It is now free online for your use and we hope you bring it to your community.
