Critical Resistance has had a long history of organizing in different parts of New York. In 2020 and 2021, Critical Resistance began to rebuild its East Coast chapter by expanding our chapter work in New York city to other parts of the state, by supporting participatory defense strategies to get people released from detention by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

CRNYC members have successfully relaunched a prisoner mail program that corresponds with prisoners in the New York area, and organize the Dignity Not Detention campaign with Abolish ICE NY NJ coalition.

In 2022, the chapter also began to collaborate with other New York City based organizers to reject a proposal to convert the presently defunct Lincoln Correctional Facility into a jail for women, gender non-conforming, and gender-expansive people.
