In order to develop people’s investment in and capacity for PIC abolition, Critical Resistance members have used political education in our communities as an organizing strategy for making PIC abolition common sense. Throughout our many campaigns and projects over the years, we’ve developed different workshops, curricula and toolkits for abolition.
Critical Resistance members have developed political education curricula on a wide range of topics, from the effects of gang injunctions and other specific policing strategies on communities, to the expansion of prison and jail systems in California and New York, the history and legacies of Third World liberation struggles as they related to PIC abolition, to organizing strategies and strategic planning for coalitions and campaigns, and alternatives to policing, imprisonment and punishment to address conflict and harm in our communities.
Additionally, CR has a few core workshops that we facilitate with community and movement partners regularly.
Topics for CR’s Core Workshops include:
- Intro to the Prison Industrial Complex
- Intro to Abolition
- Abolish Policing
- Know Your Options Workshop (Oakland Power Projects)
- Know Your Rights & Policing 101 for Youth
- Developing Campaigns to Abolish Policing (based on CR’s “Our Communities, Our Solution” campaign toolkit to abolish policing)
Check out some examples of the political education tools CR and movement partners have developed over the years on our resources page.
