A groundbreaking report on sexual violence by staff in California prisons, informed by the lived experiences of over 700 incarcerated women and trans people of all genders whose incredible bravery made this work possible; draft by the Sexual Abuse Response & Prevention Working Group, which includes organizations Sister Warriors Freedom Coalition, California Coalition for Women Prisoners, Survived & Punished CA, Just Detention International, Justice First, and VALOR, with staff from the CA Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation providing feedback.

This community report, CA Women’s Prisons – Sexual Abuse Response & Prevention Working Group, outlines substantial measures needed to combat sexual abuse within California’s Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). It emphasizes the critical need to reform how sexual assault and harassment cases are handled within the state’s carceral system, particularly within the two state prisons designated for women: the Central California Women’s Facility (CCWF) and the California Institution for Women (CIW).
