Hello Friends and Comrades of CR Portland (CRPDX),

We want to share a few updates about what we’ve been up to the last few months and what we’re looking forward to this spring. CRPDX has been moving some solid work forward and are excited to share about it.

Starting in December, we participated in the work of the Oregon to  Palestine Coalition and recently testified at the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners hearing. The coalition won the ceasefire resolution at the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners meeting on March 7. We understand the crucial role that ceasefire resolutions at the municipal and county levels have in moving decision makers at the state and national levels to our side. We at CRPDX are honored to be a part of the fight for a free Palestine.

We kicked off February by engaging in Chapter work planning. We assessed our last campaign (Care not Cops), discussed our landscape currently,  and thought through how to sustainably grow the chapter’s capacity in number, skills and coordination. We developed work plans for big moves this year. Soon, we’ll relaunch our regular prisoner mail nights, where we build solidarity with currently incarcerated people in Oregon and Washington. Be on the lookout for the first mail night within the next few months.

In late spring/ early summer, we’ll be building up to take action on a new campaign. We are setting up a series of events to share research we’ve been working on and have community conversations about the next fight we’ll be taking on. If you’re interested in learning more or being involved, send an email to crpdx@criticalresistance.org. We’re looking to connect with potential new members and grow the fight to abolish the prison industrial complex. Join us!

And please join us this Sunday, April 14 for an open house event featuring a conversation and strategy session with Palestinian Youth Movement and Jewish Voice for Peace on resisting policing from Palestine to PDX. More info and the link to RSVP on our events page here.
