Since the early 2000’s Critical Resistance Oakland (CR Oakland) has been corresponding with thousands of imprisoned loved ones and comrades in prisons, jails, and detention centers across the US (and some internationally).
Coordinated by CR Oakland’s Inside-Outside Workgroup, a workgroup of CR Oakland chapters members who work on different correspondence initiatives with imprisoned people as a vehicle for organizing across prison walls in solidarity with prisoner resistance, CR’s Prisoner Mail Program anchors national mail for the entire organization. Sharing the national office as its local headquarters in Oakland with CR’s national staff, CR Oakland’s mail program members and volunteers sort all of CR’s prisoner mail nationally, respond to thousands of letters from prisoners in states across the US, while also redirecting prisoner mail for CRPDX and CRNYC to the Pacific Northwest and East Coast chapters’ mail programs.
CR Oakland’s Prisoner Mail Program is a great way to get connected with our Bay Area chapter, learn about CR’s work, analysis and politics, while supporting imprisoned people access political education resources and spreading prison industrial complex (PIC) abolition across walls and cages.
