Human Impact Partners, California Coalition for Women Prisons, along with Transgender, Gender-Variant and Intersex (TGI) Justice Project and Californians United for a Responsible Budget (CURB) released this report on the harm and violence of CA’s prisons for women, March 2, 2023.
The 40-page report examines key demographics of imprisoned people in CA’s prisons for women, identifies several layered harmful impacts of imprisonment in CA’s prisons, and offers suggestions for solutions, providing public health evidence for the state of CA to move away from punishment and toward safe, stable and affordable housing, increased employment opportunities, affordable healthcare, accessible and reliable transportation, as well as non-carceral, non-punitive forms of accountability.
